Xerostomia is often referred to as dry mouth syndrome and is a result of lack of saliva. Not only is this a cause of discomfort but may also be problematic because saliva helps to combat the acids and bacterium that comes through eating and drinking, leading to an increase in tooth decay.
Some of the symptoms that characterise Xerostomia include a dry mouth or lack of saliva, particularly when talking, swallowing or eating. It can also be a sign along with bad breath (Halitosis) if your saliva is sticky or stringy.
Xerostomia is a common, treatable condition which involves the testing of the quality of your saliva. Pending the results, a patient will be provided with a new oral care routine and if the condition is severe this may be supplemented with products such as Tooth Mousse/Dry Mouth Gel.
