Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems including gingivitis (gum disease), oral infection, heart disease, strokes and periodontitus (inflamed gums and bones). That’s why it’s important to maintain optimal oral hygiene and undergo a dental assessment every six months to prevent these problems from developing.
Many people assume that regular dental assessments are a standard to keep your teeth and gums in shape. The reality is that they provide your dentist with an opportunity to detect any early signs or problems with your teeth, gums and oral tissues.
A simple filling at the right time or identifying a cavity early could spare you the cost of a root canal or tooth extraction in the future. These more complicated dental procedures are known to be quite expensive, time consuming and can be easily avoided with a simple 6 month consultation.
Our dental team places belief in educating our patients. During a dental assessment, your dentist and/or hygienist will demonstrate the correct oral home care procedures to you in a bid to maintain oral hygiene. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing and cleaning your tongue. A dental assessment every six months is an ideal time for your dental hygienist to treat your teeth to a professional clean and remove any plaque build-up.
