At Fresh Dental Care, we believe it is far better to save and treat a tooth where possible. Endodontic treatment aids in saving injured or diseased teeth that may have required removal.

Root Canal Treatment - North Coast Dentist | Fresh Dental Care

Endodontics is more commonly known as ‘Root Canal Therapy’ – the treatment of disease or infection found inside the tooth. It is used to salvage seriously infected teeth, which would otherwise have required extracting.

Root canal therapy saves teeth. A severely infected tooth in the past would have resulted in tooth removal. But nowadays the tooth is saved, and during a root canal treatment only the infected pulp is removed. The root canal is then cleaned and disinfected, the canal is then sealed and a filling is then placed to finish the treatment. In the majority of cases the tooth retains its functionality, durability and appearance.

The pulp of the tooth is located in the root canals and it is this area that contains the nerve tissues and blood needed to support the tooth through its development. It is for this reason why the infection is particularly painful and requires urgent treatment.

Some symptoms which may highlight the need for endodontic treatment include:

  • Serious levels of tooth decay or an injury that causes an abscess or infection in the bone
  • The development of sensitivity when hot and cold food or drinks are consumed
  • Spontaneous pain or throbbing when biting

If you’re experiencing any of the above issues, we strongly recommend you schedule a consultation with our dental team today.
